Emporiblog - Pet Safety: Toxic Essential Oils
Hello all!! Today's post is a long one but it's an important one. Something many people neglect to talk about is that some Essential Oils are TOXIC to animals. In fact, if not diluted properly some Oils are toxic to humans! Here's what to look out for, which Oils are toxic to which animals and what to do in an emergency.
Cats

If you are unsure about a specific Oil, please contact your vet!
Signs and Symptoms and what to do
Here's what to look out for if you suspect your pet has come into contact with harmful Oils.
- The smell of the Oils on, skin, fur, feathers, breath or vomit
- Difficulty breathing
- Drooling
- Fatigue/Weakness
- Difficulty walking or Stumbling
- Muscle Tremors
- Pawing at the mouth or face more than usual
- Redness or burns on lips, tongue, skin or gums
- Vomiting
If you smell Essential Oils on you pet, wash them immediately and take them to the vet along with the Oil. If you see any of the symptoms listed above or see your pet acting out of character, GET THEM TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY! The key to your pet's survival is acting fast.
