Emporiblog - Snow Magick

Hello all! We're kicking off the festive season with a post on Snow Magick! We will also cover ice as well since the two go hand in hand!

So, the easiest point to cover is that both snow and ice are different forms of water and can be used in water rituals and magick as a whole as well as for their own individual uses. We have several posts on the uses of water for those who want some extra reading!

Snow/Ice is also associated with the following:

- Winter
- Death
- Preservation
- Transformation

As well as many deities and beings (Krampus comes to mind)

But, let us look at the uses of snow within the craft...

1: You can use snow to make a poppet! That's right, you can make a temporary poppet in your own garden by building a snowman or several and enchanting them to protect your property. You can also make regular sized poppets, enchant them and melt them

2: Get rid of unwanted behaviours by enchanting a snowball or placing a piece of paper into a snowball and throwing it as far as you can. Both fun and practical

3: You can use both snow and ice to help someone "chill out"

4: Snow is a blank canvas and a sturdy stick can help with drawing things in the snow such as runes and sigils

5: Snow candles! More information here (use caution! How To Make A Snow Candle

Now let's have a look at the uses of ice:

1: Freezer spells! If you want to literally freeze someone or something in their tracks, put their name and date of birth and/or a photo in some water and put them in the freezer for as long as you feel necessary. You could technically put a poppet in the freezer too

2: Release or destroy something by smashing an ice cube! Make a tray of ice cubes and when they are ready, take one out and put it on the ground outside, speak your intention to it and smash it. You can also put pieces of paper with your intention in the water to freeze

3: Ice is slippery, use it to make someone slip up

4: A cooking tip. Melt butter and pour into an ice cube tray and add herbs. Let them set and use in cooking

5: This is a baneful tip but you can use icicles to pierce a poppet but be careful and wear eye protection!

6: Pour water into moulds to make ice statues and use the melting process as a spell

I think we'll leave this post here! It snowed in Cornwall today, which is a rarety in itself but to snow in November is even rarer!

Wrap up warm, watch for ice and be careful on the roads!

Blessings,
