Crystal Wednesday - Amethyst

Hello all!! Our first Crystal Wednesday is Amethyst!! We decided to do weekly crystal instalments so we could focus on each specific crystal instead of clumping a load together with a vague overview of each so, enjoy!!

Amethyst is a violet variety of Quartz. It is associated with the month of February, the planet Jupiter, the 3rd eye and crown chakras, air, water and is the gemstone of Aquarius. It is also a traditional gift for a 33rd wedding anniversary as 33 is the number of divine protection. The Amethysts pictured above have been tumbled.

The meaning of ...

Amethyst literally means "not intoxicated" and comes from the Greek word: AmΓ©thystos. The Greeks gave the stone it's name of Amethyst because of a belief that the stone could protect the holder from intoxication. Its spiritual meaning is:

Coming from the Greek myth that gave the stone its name, it is also said to aid sobriety from alcohol, drugs and other addictive substances. Do not substitute ongoing treatment for Amethyst, use only to boost current treatment. Do not go against the advice of your doctor.
