Tarot Tuesday - Basic Card Layout

Hello all!! Today's Tarot Tuesday will focus on a simple Linear 3 Card Spread. This is a quick how to guide for beginners or for those who are a bit rusty. In case you missed it, here's a link to last week's Tarot Tuesday for a basics brush up 👉🏻  Tarot Basics For Beginners .

The Linear 3 Card Spread is the easiest spread to use. It's simple to arrange and easy to decipher. Every time you do this spread, you will be able to see how the meaning of the cards change depending on its position in the draw so, it might be worth taking notes on your readings to look back on for comparison.

To start, clear your mind and think of the question you want to ask. (Some people like to cleanse their decks first, this will be in a separate post). Repeat the question either out loud or in your head as you shuffle. Once you feel you've shuffled enough, put the deck down and arrange the top 3 cards in the following way:
Card 1

The first card in the draw represents the Past. Actions and events that happened in the past, leading up to today are revealed and evaluated in this card. Reflecting on the past is a good way to progress in the present and the future, after all, those who refuse to learn from their past are doomed to repeat it.

Card 2

The Present. This card will help you evaluate what is currently going on and possibly show you a new direction or directions to take going forward.

Card 3

The last card is for the Future. This card shows what could possibly happen as a result of the possibilities shown in card 2. How you interpret this is up to you.

If you're reading for yourself, it's perfectly fine to use the booklet or a guide for interpretation until you become more comfortable with Tarot. For self readings, try to find something that ties the cards together. This will help with understanding the messages that the cards are trying to send you. An inverted card in the reading may forecast a negative outcome but, within the inversion you will also find clues on how limit or possibly avoid any negativity.

This spread can also used for the following:

- Dilemma, Choice 1, Choice 2
- Hope, Fear, Opposition

Like any divination device, Tarot should be used as a guide only. Always respect your decks and thank them for their help after each use.

I hope you've found this guide useful. Keep your eyes peeled every Tuesday for more Tarot related content!!

Blessings,
