Emporiblog - Animal Symbolism pt 1 Introduction
Hello all!! This is the first part of our Animal Symbolism series!! All future parts will be coming randomly so keep your eyes on our blog!! This post is just an introduction to show you what to expect from the series.
Animals are everywhere. They're in the sky, on the land, in the ground and in the oceans. For hundreds of thousands of years we've lived among and along side various creatures. Some of these partnerships have withstood the test of time with man's best friend being the prime example. So it's no surprise that over the course of time, we've come to associate things with animals, from the Gods of Ancient Worlds to the symbolism of Indigenous Peoples to modern times, we'll be exploring as many meanings and animals as possible!!
Because there are so many animals to cover and so many cultures to research, it's only fair that we break it up into multiple posts to give you as much information as possible. I will also have to take my time to make sure that my spellings, terminology and language are correct and appropriate. I will also be covering Familiars and why animal parts have been used in spells, which will include animal friendly substitutes for our vegan readers.
The best example of animal symbolism that has carried on to modern times that I can think of is the Chinese Zodiac. It contains 12 animals that represent a year with the characteristics of said animals corresponding to that year. I will cover the Chinese Zodiac in more detail, focusing on each individual animal and what their characteristics represent.
We also use animals to describe other human traits without realising it. If someone is stubborn, they're bullheaded. If they're dishonest and backstabbing, they're a snake. When one is scared, they're a chicken and so on and so forth. During the course of this series, we will find out more about the origin of these sayings and why they've persisted.
As an animal lover, I'm looking forward to learning more about our animal world and hoping you all enjoy taking this journey with me.
I'm aiming to have Part 2 posted at some point this week. I don't know how many parts there will be but I'll have a better idea once I've organised my research and split it up into parts.
It looks like the sunny weather is returning so keep yourself and your animals safe!!
Blessings,
