Tarot Tuesday - Choosing a Deck
First of all, it's perfectly ok to just have 1 Deck but it's best to cleanse your Deck after every use especially if you've done a reading for other people or others have touched them. You can read about Deck Cleansing here 👉🏻 Tarot Deck Cleansing.
With Tarot, there are those who say that you cannot purchase your own Deck and those who buy their own. It is completely up to you, if a Deck feels right and you want to buy it, go for it!! I certainly have! And if, like me, you've ended up with more than one Deck then you can use a different Deck for a different purpose. Let me elaborate....
What to do with multiple Decks
There are multiple readings for a Tarot Deck to do and if you have multiple Decks you can assign a Deck to the following:
- Self Readings. These are readings you do for yourself so I suggest using a Deck that you have a strong bond with for the most accurate results.
- Readings for friends and family. You might want to use a separate Deck for readings for people who you are close to as their energies will be different from yours and may confuse the Deck you use for yourself.
- Readings for strangers. You may have strangers approach you for readings, usually they're a referral from a friend or a friend of a friend or if you do readings professionally, they could be a new client.
- Readings for repeat clients. If you read professionally and have a steady client base, there's a chance that your clients have got used to a particular Deck.
- A Deck that others touch. Some Decks don't like to be handled by others but some don't mind so it's best to set aside a Deck or multiple Decks for others to handle but be sure to cleanse them regularly!!
- Ritual Readings. You can assign a Deck purely for use in rituals or different Decks for different types of rituals.
- Deck Rotation. If you get a new Deck, feel that a Deck is being neglected or that a Deck needs a rest, you can switch out one of your Decks in current use.
How to assign
The best way to assign a Deck to a purpose is to ask the Deck itself if it wants to do the job you'd like to assign it to. To do this you can:
- Hold a pendulum over the Deck as you ask the question and see what the answer is.
- Hold the Deck in your hands and wait for it to answer.
- Ask the Deck and draw a card or do a reading with it and if it is successful then the Deck has agreed to the purpose.
Never assign a Deck to a purpose without asking as it shows a lack of respect towards the cards!
