Emporiblog - Budget Witch Tips

Hello all!! Today I'm going to talk about something that affects quite a lot of us and that is how to practice on a budget!!

Unfortunately, not all of us have the privilege of financial security for various reasons and trying to budget is tough enough without the added stress of being able to practice or not. But, Witchcraft doesn't have to be as expensive as we've been lead to believe. Crystals don't have to cost an arm and a leg and you'd be surprised where you can save your pennies without compromising your practice, so, let's get stuck in and help eachother out!

As we are a UK based business/blog, I will be referencing UK shops, for those of you in other parts of the world, there should be equivalents to our shops in your respective countries but you may have to do some research if you have internet access!!

Budget Witch - Candles

Candles are the easiest tool to budget from what I've found.

(Don't forget that a White candle will work for any purpose!)

If you have a Poundland or a Wilko's nearby, they have tealights at decent prices and candles in jars that won't break the bank and the jars can be upcycled. Surprisingly, Asda have a few candle bargains as well!! Candles tend to become popular around Halloween and Christmas time so these times would be ideal to look around local shops to see what you can find.

Remember those jars I just mentioned? Well, tealights and candles in general usually leave a bit of wax behind or drip wax down holders and on to surfaces. Save this wax!! Once the candle has burnt out, scrape out or collect as much wax as possible and put it in a jar then, once you have a decent amount, you can melt it down and make your own candle. Please research how to do this properly!!

When in doubt, see if you can find some birthday candles! They usually come in a few different colours and are very cheap. Plus they're small so they are easier to store. We had a box of random birthday candles in our cupboard so there is a chance that a friend or relative may have a few laying around somewhere!

Budget Witch - Herbs

For finding herbs at reasonable prices, see what your local shop has in stock. Try to go for own brand instead of name brands, it's exactly the same herb, it's just in a slightly fancier jar with a pretty label. If you have the space and resources, seed packets are quite cheep if you are able to grow your own herbs!!

If you have access to the internet or a library, you can research what herbs grow where and you never know, you might be able to find some in the wild or an overhanging bush close to where you live. Do not trespass onto others property and make sure you know what you're looking for!

To dry herbs, you don't need a fancy dehydrator or to use the oven. Simple hang the herbs in the corner of your window! Hanging them in the kitchen will also work as the kitchen is usually the warmest room in the house. If you're able to turn on your heating, you can hang them above your radiators but be careful of parts falling off and down the back of your radiators.

Budget Witch - Flowers/Flora

Rose can be used in place of any flower in a pinch!

Seed packets may have some information on/in them on how to look after the seeds and plants if you're able to grow your own!

Again, if you're able to access the internet or a library, find out what Flowers and trees are local to you, what their habits are and their magical associations. If you have neighbours or friends or family with flowering gardens, don't be afraid to ask them for clippings or if they can collect fallen petals/leaves for you.

If you are able to have a phone that runs apps, see if you can download a free app that can identify plants.

Budget Witch - Internet Orders/Shopping

If you have access to the internet, then you should be able to get your hands on pretty much anything. However, the internet is full of scams so please make sure you read product descriptions and customer reviews carefully. The most important thing to remember about internet shopping is:

- ALWAYS CHECK FOR A DELIVERY CHARGE! If you're on a strict budget, the delivery charges could put you over budget so be careful.

Don't be afraid to buy second hand (depending on what you're looking for). You'd be surprised with what you can find in charity shops and second hand shops!

Check your local shops as often as you can for sales and reduced items (covid restrictions depending of course!).

Budget Witch - Crystals

Clear Quartz can be used in place of any Crystal! If you're on a strict budget, this is the crystal to get first!

If you have any local Crystal shops near you, set yourself a limit on how many you can buy per month depending on your budget and the prices of the shop. Smaller Crystals such as small tumbles or chips would be better if you have a spending limit.

If you don't have any around, online is your best bet. Refer to the section above for internet shopping.

I will do a separate post on how to identify a fake Crystal.

These are all the tips I have at the moment! As I find more, I'll make more posts. This isn't another series as it were, but more of an as and when I find the information, I will post it!

I hope you've found this post useful!

Blessings,
