Emporiblog - Pendulum Basics

Hello all!! Today's post is about the basics of Pendulum use!!

A Pendulum is normally a string or a chain with a weight of some kind attached to the end. The Pendulum pictured above seems to be the most recognisable shape but a Pendulum can be any shape or size.

Once they become familiar with Pendulums, people usually have multiple ones that are used for different things but, if, like me, you're new to Pendulums, it's best to find one that calls to you and practice with that until you gain confidence.

I will go into what the different Crystals and shapes mean for Pendulum use at a later date! But for now it's just the basics.

Getting started

Pendulums are a divination tool that can be used for rituals/spells, healing and everyday use. Before you use your Pendulum, it's best to cleanse it (we have posts on cleansings methods that should work for Pendulums as well) to make sure that the energies are clear so you can get the most accurate results. You also need to pay attention to how your Pendulum moves and responds to you question. Since we're focusing on the basics, let's stick with simple yes/no questions and This/that questions.

Movements

Try to keep your hands as steady as possible!

A Pendulum can move in several ways:

- Clockwise
- Anticlockwise
- Side to side (starting left/staring right)
- Up and down (Starting up/Starting down)
- Diagonally - top left to bottom right
                     - bottom right to top left
                     - top right to bottom left
                     - bottom left to top right

It's important that you understand how your Pendulum moves. The best way to do this is to write yes and no on separate pieces of paper, hold your Pendulum over the words and see how it moves. Do this several times and make a note of the movements each time. Once the movements have become constant, you have a designated Yes/No. Then you can ask your question.

Asking the question

Simply hold your Pendulum at a sensible hight either above your hand or a table and ask the yes/no question. Watch the movements to get your answer.

Alternatively, you can use the yes/no pieces of paper and hold the Pendulum above each word. Ask the question over yes and see if there's any movement and repeat again for no. Usually, the answer in this method is the one with the most movement.

For this/that questions, I'd recommend using the paper method. Write your options on separate pieces of paper and repeat the step directly above. If you have more than 2 options, you can also use this method to narrow down your options.

As s bonus.... Finding items

You can also use Pendulums to locate misplaced items. To locate said item, visualise the item in your mind and see how the Pendulum moves in response or hold the Pendulum above a photo or a drawing and see how it moves. That movement is the Pendulums response to the item. Once you're sure of the movement, you can begin your search but take it slow so you can steady the Pendulum after checking each area. If the Pendulum moves like it did when you asked it to help find the item, start looking in that area!!

I hope you've found this post useful!! We currently have a limited selection of Pendulums in stockstock, if we don't have what you want, don't be afraid to message us and we'll see what we can do 😉

Blessings,
