Tarot Tuesday - The Emperor
Hello all!! We're returning to our insite into the Major Arcana with The Emperor!!
The Emperor is number 4 in the Major Arcana. It is associated with the element of Fire and the planet Mars.
History
Emperors where more prevalent during the early days of Tarot than they are today (I think Japan is the only country currently with an Emperor). One of the first Emperor incarnations can be traced to the Visconti Deck, honouring Emperor Sigismund (who passed in 1437). Traditional Emperors are normally bearded men seated on a throne with some sort of crown, crossed legs, a shield, a sceptre and a globe.

The purpose of this segment is to help you with your own interpretations.
In the card pictured above, we can see a skeleton in Pharaonic dress with jewels, little golden scarabs, an Ankh and the Eye of Ra on his headdress. In his hands, he's holding a thorned black/blue rose and some sort of short staff. Our Pharaoh/Emperor also has a golden incisor.
Meaning
The meaning of The Emperor is one of authority, leadership and power like the Emperors of old. There is a law and order to everything physical and metaphysical and The Emperor represents the balance between the two. It could point towards a possible promotion. If you are a male, it points to you being a strong father figure to either your children or someone who views you as a father figure or a strong father figurein your life. If you are female, it points to a strong father figure in your life. This father figure could be watching over you physically or metaphysically.
Reversed Meaning
A reversed Emperor points to a loss of authority in your life and/of a lack of control which has lead to you becoming a control freak to try to regain control of your life. It can also point to a lack of discipline which has lead to an immature streak that is negatively impacting your life. So called "friends" are manipulating you for their own gain so be cautious!
Everyone has their own interpretation of Tarot. Interpretations differ from person to person.
I hope you've enjoyed this post!! We'll continue with The Hierophant next week!
