Tarot Tuesday - The Empress

Hello all!! Today's Tarot Tuesday is The Empress!!

The Empress sits at number 3 in the Major Arcana. It is associated with the element of Earth and the planet Venus.

History

In Italian, The Empress is referred to as L'Imperatrice. The earliest incarnation of The Empress comes from a deck commissioned in the 1440s by the Visconti family, specially Fillipo Visconti who was the Duke of Milan. In French and Italian Decks printed between the 15th and 17th centuries, The Empress is always pictured as a seated, imposing female of power as, at the time, Queens and other female leaders would preside over their own courts.

Pictured above...

The purpose of this segment is to help you with your own interpretations.

In the card pictured above we can seesee a female sat on a throne, shaped like dragon wings. She is bare foot and holding an empty goblet that has a skull incorporated into the design. There's a book, that has either been placed haphazardly or dropped at the base of the throne and there's a silver candle holder with an extinguished candle in front of the book. There appears to be some sort of metal box behind the throne and what looks like pages in front of the woman. The throne itself appears to be in some sort of gloomy wooden hall as we can see stairs in the background. The woman does not look amused

Meaning

The Empress represents a maternal influence and is the best card to draw if you wish to start a family, a pregnancy could happen in the future. The Empress is also associated with creation and not just the creation of life, it could mean that a new opportunity will present itselfitself or a romance will bloom or you will enter a creative period. Trust your maternal instincts and nurturing nature and abundance and stability will follow.

Reversed Meaning

A reversed Empress means that all is not well within your house. Domestic problems have arisen or will arise and financial issues with either be the cause or will exacerbate matters. You will also enter a period of stagnation. During this time, an unplanned pregnancy may occur which you must decide how to prepare for. The other cards in the reading may provide some guidance or a further, specific reading may be needed. Be prepared and take precautions.

Everyone has their own interpretation of Tarot. Interpretations differ from person to person.

I hope you've enjoyed this post! Next week, we'll take a break from the Major Arcana and focus on a layout, either an easier one or a more advanced one, I haven't decided yet.

Blessings,
