Samhain marks the end of harvest season and the beginning of winter. It was historically observed in Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man. The Welsh have their own version of Samhain called Calan Gaeaf, as do the Cornish with Kalan Gwav and the Brittany festival of Kalan Goañv. Other spellings and variations of Samhain include:
- Sauin (Isle of Man)
- Samain (Irish)
- Samuin (Irish)
- Samhainn (Scottish)
- Samhuinn (Scottish)
