Emporiblog - Altar Items - Candles
Hello all! Today is the start of our mini series of common Altar Items and I thought we'd start with a personal favourite: Candles!!
Why put Candles on your Altar
There are several reasons why people put Candles on their Altar, including:
- Elemental representation. Candles are the most popular representative of the element of Fire along with matches, incense, and lighters.
- Deities. If you work with Deities, chances are Candles are one of your offerings to them, either a very specific Candle assigned to the Deity or Candles of specific colours/scents that represent them.
- Colours/Scents. Candles are very versatile and can come in many shapes, sizes, colours and scents. So, it's quite easy to find Candles that correspond to your practice.
- You just like them. It's quite possible that you saw a Candle and thought that it would look good on your Altar.
- Spell/ritual work. Candles are a staple in spell/ritual work and setting intentions.
What if I can't light Candles?
If you have Candles on your Altar, you don't necessarily have to light them, they can be decorative.
You don't have to have a Candle as a Deity offering. Research your Deity so see what can be offered in place of a Candle or listen to them to see what they want.
To represent colour and scents, just decorate with appropriate colours and you can use scent bags in place of Candles and incense.
You don't have to have Candles on your Altar. There is no right or wrong way to decorate an Altar as every practice is completely personal.
We have a selection of customisable Candles available at our shop if you find yourself short! We're also experimenting with new products all the time so keep your eyes peeled!!
I hope you've enjoyed todays post! I am aware that there are All Souls'Day and Día de Muertos celebrations happening but these events require proper research in order to post about them. I will have a post prepared for next year!
Blessings,
