Emporiblog - Altar Items - Cloth
Hello all!! We're continuing our Altar series with Altar Cloths!!
A note here to say that our Flora Friday will be in honour of Remembrance Day (11th November) and Remembrance Sunday. Don't forget the 2 minute silence at 11am!
Now, to the post...
I will start off by saying that you don't need to have a Cloth, they are optional as are Altars!
Why do people have an Altar Cloth?
The answer is because the person felt that the Cloth went with their Altar or their Deity/Deities requested a specific one.
How to choose an Altar Cloth
- First and foremost, choose one that you like!
- Choose one that fits with your path
- Make sure it fits your Altar space
- Check if it's washable and how to wash it
- If one calls to you, it's meant for you!
If you change your Altar throughout the year, you can have multiple Cloths, one for each set up or you can keep your original one!
If you work with Deities, listen to what they want!
Does my Altar Cloth have to be fancy?
No. Your Altar Cloth doesn't have to be fancy, unless you want it to be! You can use anything as an Altar Cloth, a patterned sheet/pillow case, a large bandana, something you Grandmother knitted, a shop bought Altar Cloth, anything as long as you like it and/or it has significance to you and/or your path!
Altar Cloth Safety
There's a high chance that your Cloth is flamable so you need to be careful if you're using, Candles, Incense or are burning anything on/near your Altar. Fire safety is important!
Some materials, offerings and ingredients could also stain your Cloth, so be careful, especially if your chosen Cloth can only be washed in a certain way or holds sentimental value to you.
What do I do if I don't want an Altar Cloth?
If you don't want a Cloth, you need to know how to care for the surface of your chosen space whether it's, glass, wood, painted, , plastic, varnished etc.
There is no right or wrong way to decorate an Altar as all practices are personal!
I hope you've enjoyed this post! What items are on your Altar and what items would you like to see featured here? Let me know in the comments!
