Emporiblog - Deity Work

Hello all!! Today's post is about Deity Work!!

In this post, I'll be going over the basics of Deity Work and answering some frequently asked questions!

Let's start with some questions...

Do I have to do Deity Work?

No. Deity Work isn't compulsory for Witchcraft. Not everybody wants to or is able to do Deity work.

Can I work with multiple Deities?

Yes. You can work with several Deities at any given time.

How do I know if a Deity is reaching out to me?

There are several ways to do this. If you have any psychic or clairvoyant abilities, it'll be easier for you to find out. Divination is another way. Having a Deity reading will provide answers. If you're noticing things more often that you previously haven't noticed before (numbers, animals, flowers etc) research which Deity/Deities are connected to it. Meditation (for those that can) may help to reveal who is reaching out to you.

How do I communicate with Deities?

Again, if you have psychic or clairvoyant abilities, it'll be easier to communicate. If you don't, divination e.g Pendulums, Tarot, Runes etc will help a lot, just ask your question or do readings throughout the day. Once you've become comfortable with your Deity, you'll be able to trust your instincts and gut feelings.

Can I choose what Deity/Deities to work with?

In a way. If you want to work with a specific Deity, you can reach out to them, however, they may not accept you. If they don't, you can try again in the future or find someone else to work with. If a Deity is mistreating you in any way, shape or form or asking you to do things you're not comfortable with/ready for, you can stop working with them, but, you must be clear and break the connection properly.

Do I have to commit to a Deity for life?

Not necessarily. This completely depends on the Deity. Some will stay with you for as long as you're on your path, some will come and go as and when they feel they are needed and when they feel that you have learnt all you can from them. As mentioned before in the previous section, you can end work with a specific Deity if they are mistreating you.

What can I give as an offering?

Listen to what they want. A Deity will more often than not, tell you what they want or you can  research what offerings are acceptable and see how your Deity reacts. Basic offerings may  include specific:

- Candles
- Crystals
- Plants/herbs/seeds/Flora
- Food
- Alcohol
- Liquids
- Perfume
- Incense
- Spells/Workings/Rituals

Can I call on a Deity if I don't work with them or don't normally do Deity Work?

Yes. Just remember to thank them properly and remember that said Deity may or may not assist you.

Deity Work isn't for everyone. As I said previously, not everyone wants to or is ready for Deity work. It is a serious commitment that requires a lot of time, dedication and research. You have to devote a lot of energy, which can leave you drained and exhausted at times, especially if you're working with more than one. This isn't something you can rush into or make it up as you go along, you need to be prepared!

As we have several series on the go already, it'll be a while before I start to cover individual Deities, unless we get a request!!

Blessings,
