Emporiblog - Witchcraft Do's and Don'ts
Please note that this post is more like a guideline than an actual rule.
Do
Here are some things that you definitely need to do in Witchcraft:
- Research. You need to know what you are doing!
- Write as much down as possible
- Take your time. You can't rush Witchcraft.
- PROTECTION! Even just for Tarot.
- Know your herbs. Not all herbs are edible
- Know yourself. You and only you know what you're capable of/ready for
- Be respectful
- Work with your surroundings
- Give thanks. To the Universe, Earth and Deities
- Work within your budget
- Be patient. Not everything will happen all at once
- Shadow Work. I know it's daunting but it'll really help you in the long run, once you're ready!
- Help those New to the path. Share your expertise with the next generation
Don't
Here are the Don'ts of Witchcraft. Things you definitely shouldn't do will be in bold, things you didn't have to do will be underlined.
- Gatekeep. Only Gatekeep if a CLOSED practice is involved. If it's part of an open practice, leave them alone!
- Have loads of Crystals. You don't need to have hundreds of Crystals or know everything about Crystals to be a Witch!
- Work with Deities. Not everyone is ready for Deity work and not everyone wants to work with Deities
- Rush into things! You will hurt yourself and others
- Ridicule New/Baby Witches. We were all beginners once, let them find their power safely!
- Have an Altar. Not everyone wants an Altar or has space for one
- Be in a Coven. Solitary practitioners are VALID!
- Adhere to the 3 fold law. The 3 fold law is NOT a hard and fast rule and is mainly part of the Wiccan path
- Hex without experience. Some Witches won't Hex and that is fine! But if you want to, you need to know what you are doing, if needs be, you may have to wait. If you don't want to Hex, a return to sender Spell should do the trick
- Follow the lunar cycle/Astrology. Not everyone can remember the Lunar cycle or remember all of the Astrology terminology
- Criticise someone else's practice. As long as they're safe and understand exactly what they're doing, leave them alone. Your way isn't the only way
- Have to come from a long line of Witches. If you're lucky enough to have a long Witch lineage, embrace it! Not everyone does and those of us that don't are still valid!
- Look a certain way. Witches have no "look". Wear what you want and dress however you like!
- Perform complex Spells/rituals. Mundane magic is still magic! If all you can manage is stirring your tea with intent or burning a Bay Leaf, it still counts!
- Disregard your physical/mental health. Some of the "signs" of Witchcraft (hearing voices, seeing things that aren't really there, specs of light etc) are also indicators of medical conditions so if they persist, go to the doctor! And remember to take your medication/s, they won't dull or taint your powers!
