Tarot Tuesday - The Hermit
Hello all! Today's Tarot Tuesday is The Hermit!
The Hermit is number 9 in the Major Arcana and is associated with the element of Earth and the planet Mercury.
History
The Hermit has his origins in Tarot de Marseilles. All of the Major Arcana cards represent an Archetype with The Hermit representing the Sage Archetype and older Tarot accounts refere to The Hermit as Father Time which makes sense as traditional Hermit imagery normally depicts The Hermit as an elderly man with a staff (think Gandalf the Gray).

The purpose of this section is to help you with your own interpretations.
In the card pictured above, we can see a mischievous looking pixie/elf like creature sitting on an upturned cup. The creature has red wrappings for clothes, red wings, hair and red tipped ears. The creature is holding a big, white feather that has red around the edges. The upturned cup is also the same deep crimson colour that features throughout the picture. There is a skull and crossbones on the cup as well as red liquid on the floor.
Meaning
The Hermit card is a card of self-reflection particularly introspection. You need to examine your emotional and mental processes and understanding how they work and why they work the way they do. You can better achieve this through soul searching and meditation (if able to do so!). However, you may need to withdraw from society or be in solitude to do this. Alternatively, it could mean that once your soul search is complete, it could lead to a period of solitude and withdrawal from society as a result of this search, as you adjust.
Reverse Meaning
A reversed Hermit is a very lonely card. Your misfit behaviour will lead to exile if it hasn't already. This exile will lead to loneliness and sadness which will cause you to withdraw from the few friends and family that you have left. Alternatively, it can foreshadow a period of depression which will cause a self-imposed exile where you will withdraw from everyone and experience loneliness and sadness as a result. If you get a reversed Hermit, it is a warning to prepare yourself to stop this behaviour before it goes too far. Take a look at how you're processing things and find where you can improve before it's too late.
Everyone has their own interpretation of Tarot. Interpretations differ from person to person.
I hope you've enjoyed this weeks Tarot Tuesday!!
Blessings,
