Tarot Tuesday - The Hanged Man

Hello all!! Today's Tarot Tuesday is The Hanged Man!

The Hanged Man dangles at number 12 in the Major Arcana and is associated with the element of Water and the planet Neptune.

History

Classical Hanged Man imagery depicts a man hanging by one ankle. This particular hanging was the most common method for hanging traitors in Italy at the time of Tarots inception. This particular artwork is called Pittura Infamante which translates to Defaming Portrait and was popular in Renaissance Italy and mainly depicted thieves, traitors, fraudsters and those who's crimes could not be pardoned with legal help.

Pictured above...

The purpose of this section is to help you with your own interpretations.

In the card pictured above, we can see an upsidedown Mummy holding his wrappings open at his chest. Inside the wrappings, there is a scarab beetle in the centre of his chest. The Mummy also has a silver and red Eye of Ra on his forehead. The background looks like a section of an Ancient Egyptian tomb with Osiris and Anubis (Gods of Death and the Underworld respectively), there are also several hieroglyphs on the wall (I would translate but my books are at my nans and I am not).

Meaning

The Hanged Man isn't necessarily a happy card and it can be quite blunt at times. It shows that you could be suspended on your current path and you need to instigate a self metamorphosis. You need to do this by letting go. Depending on your question, the other cards in the reading will help you figure out what you need to let go of or you may need a more in-depth and precise reading. Letting go is the first step that will allow you to break old patterns that are holding you back and stopping you from moving forward and achieving your goals. Once you have done this, you can finally achieve your goals.

Reversed Meaning

A reversed Hanged Man is a very blunt and criticising card. You ego is getting in the way and is severely hindering you in regards to your life and your question. It is causing an inability to change, leaving you set in your ways, which are, in fact, detrimental. The combination of your ego and inability to change are causing you to miss opportunities that could have turned your life around for the better. You need to lose you ego as soon as possible and work on adapting to change. Once you've done that, refer to the section above to complete the process.

Everyone has their own interpretation of Tarot. Interpretations differ from person to person.

Apologies for the slight lateness, the current storm caused a mini power cut and the WiFi hasn't quite recovered!

I hope you've enjoyed this post! Next week's card will be Death, so stay tuned!
