Emporiblog - Sigil Introduction
Hello all!! Today we will be doing an introduction to Sigils!!
What is a Sigil?
A Sigil is a symbol that has been created with magical intentions.
History
The word Sigil comes from the Latin word Sigillum, which means seal. In medieval times, particularly with ceremonial magicks, Sigil was a blanket term used for occult signs that corresponded with a Demon or an Angel. Witches where thought to use these symbols to summon said entities (think Lesser Key of Solomon). Sigils and seals have been used for centuries over many different cultures, like the Yantra from Hinduism and Veves in Vodun, so it's no surprise that their meaning and creation method has changed and/or has varied over the years, depending on where you live.
So, the Sigils that you may be familiar with now are something completely different from their predecessors (excluding Demon/Angel Sigils and those from other cultures).
Can anyone use Sigils?
Yes and No. Some Sigils like the Veves mentioned above belong to closed practices and the Sigils of Demons and Angels are not to be used lightly! Sigils like this 👇🏻are open for everyone to use (as far as I know!) and it is these types of Sigils that I will be covering!
How do I create a Sigil?
There are several different ways to create a Sigil and I will be covering each method in separate posts so I can cover each method in detail. You can try all of the methods to see which one works best for you and once you've found your preferred method, you can refine your Sigil creation from there!!
I will cover wards and glyphs as well and explain the difference between them!
I hope you've enjoyed this post! I'm looking forward to researching the different methods and sharing them with you!
Blessings,
