Flora Friday - Seaside Daisy

Hello all! Today's Flora Friday is the Seaside Daisy!

Seaside Daisy (Erigeron Glaucus) belongs to the Erigeron genus and the Compositae family. Other names include:

- Seaside Fleabane
- Beach Aster

Not to be confused with Alpine Fleabane!

Where To Find

Seaside Daisy is native to America, specifically, the coastlines of California and Oregon. This plant likes coastal areas, beaches and dunes but, there is a specific forest in California where these flowers can be found.

Edible Parts

Apparently, this plant is edible! Some parts of the plant can be eaten raw (leaves and stems) but it is recommended to cook them to remove the little hairs on them. I would still check with local experts before consuming!

Medicinal Uses

I have found reference to Native Americans using this plant for its antioxidant, expectorant, neuroprotective and diuretic properties. If you know of any other medicinal properties, let me know!!

Magical Uses

I can't find any specific uses for Seaside Daisy so, if you like, you can assign your own!

Victorian Flower Language

I couldn't find a specific meaning for Seaside Daisy but Daisy in general means innocence.
