Tarot Tuesday - Temperance

Hello all! Today we're retuning to the Major Arcana with Temperance!

Temperance comes at number 14 in the Major Arcana and is associated with the element of Fire and the planet Jupiter.

History

In the older, original Italian Tarot Decks, Temperance was numbered at 6 or 7, depending on the Deck. It was the Tarot de Marseille (and later, other contemporary Decks) that numbered Temperance at number 14. In some Decks, Temperance is referred to as Art

The purpose of this section is to help you with your own interpretations.

In the card pictured above, we can see a winged lady crouching on a rock. She has long maroon hair and a crown, of sorts, of pink, purple and red thorned roses. She is clad in blue but her back and wings are uncovered. Her wings are are iridescent, mostly consisting of blues and purples. She also has a very intricate tattoo on her back with lots of symbols, including a Triquetra in an inverted triangle. Our winged lady is facing us but we can see some sort of large body of water in the background with a Full Moon shrouded by clouds. The light is permeating through and is reflected in the water.

Meaning

Temperance is a very spiritual cardcard that indicates that there is balance and harmony, either within yourself or to do with what you are asking about. It can also indicate that you need to look for or into Divine intervention. You may be able to achieve this by connecting more with your guides or starting work with guides if you haven't already done so. Temperance is the card of moderation. How you interpret moderation is up to you but you should not overindulge. Alchemy will also be coming your way in the form of positive transformation and the creation of a better you or a better situation. Do not try to fight this, it is meant to be.

Reversed Meaning

A reversed Temperance is a card of discourse and discontent. It is literally the opposite of the upright card in the sense that you are surrounded by imbalance and disharmony, which is most likely being caused by your own lack of patience, in regard to your question/situation. You need to learn how to be patient. Trying to rush things along or rush towards how you think things should be going is only going to make the situation worse. It can also indicate the onset of an illness either related to your impatience or completely unrelated. Of this illness is related to your impatience, you can prevent it from going further by taking a step back and learning how to become more patient. If the illness persists, please seek medical advice.

Everyone has their own interpretation of Tarot. Interpretations differ from person to person.
