Flora Friday - Peruvian Lily

Hello all!! Today's Flora Friday is Peruvian Lily!!

Peruvian Lily (Alstroemeria Aurea) is a genus of plants belong to the Alstroemeriaceae family. Other names include:

- Lily of the Incas
- Parrot Lily

Where To Find

Peruvian Lilies are native to South America but some of the species have become naturalised in the USA, the Canary Islands, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia and Madeira.

Edible Parts

It is not advised to eat this plant or any of the other plants within the genus!! Although, the roots are said to be safe to eat one they've been cooked, but I wouldn't try this without supervision from an expert just to be safe.

This plant can cause mild - serious skin reactions and will kill small animals if consumed!

Medicinal Uses

Since this plant is technically toxic and can cause allergic reactions, it is not advised to use medicinally.

Magical Uses

In magical practices, Peruvian Lilies are used for:

- Friendship
- Love
- Devotion
- Strength
- Romance

Victorian Flower Language

In Victorian Flower Language, Peruvian Lily (Alstroemeria) means devotion.
