Tarot Tuesday - The Moon

Hello all!! Today's Tarot Tuesday is The Moon!!

The Moon falls in at number 18 in the Major Arcana and is associated with the element of Water and the planet Neptune.

History

The meaning of The Moon has been fairly consistent since the Tarot's inception. The imagery has changed a few times but this does not affect the meaning. Some Decks feature a wolf and a dog together, which in turn, symbolises that there are two sides to every situation. Other popular imagery shows a person (usually thought to be an astrologer) working under the Moon.

Pictured above...

The purpose of this section is to help you with your own interpretations.

In the card pictured above, we can see a not so happy wolf (probably of the were variety) kneeling on the ground in stoney terrain, surrounded by chains, some of which are broken. The werewolf has some tattoos that are either alchemical or occult symbols. Our nocturnal friend also has a silver snake like bracelet wrapped around the bottom portion of his arm. There is a lot of anger in his face and it looks like he's not fully transformed yet as there is very little fur baring the fur on his face/head. In the background we can see a few other wolves lurking behind our werewolf. There is also a full Moon shining brightly in the night sky.

Meaning

If you draw an upright Moon, you need to be careful! An upright Moon foretells that you are in the midst of a deception. If you're asking about a specific person, that person is deceiving you in some way. This deception will either lead you into a difficult period or you have already entered that period. During this time, you will experience fear and insecurity, likely as a result of the deception. You must work through these feelings in a healthy way to move forward. You may also experience mental confusion during this time. It is important that you do not make any critical decisions until your mind is clearer. People will use this mental confusion to further deceive you so be on your guard! Things may also become hidden to you during this time but, that is because you are not yet ready for them. As you move forward and heal, things will reveal themselves to you if you are ready. If you draw this card, ground and protect yourself! Trust your gut instincts and be weary of changing behaviour, especially if it's out of character...

Reversed Meaning

There are both positive and negative aspects to a reversed Moon. It indicates that you are still unhappy within your or due to your situation or a specific person. Reflect on yourself and your situation to find how to move forward. You may also experience insomnia during this reflection period. You can either work through it yourself or you can can seek medical advice, this choice is up to you. This following part is neither negative or positive as it depends on the individual. You may experience or be experiencing some unusual dreams. These dreams may be the cause of your insomnia or they could be completely unrelated. These unusual dreams may actually contain the answers you are looking for, so, if you can remember your dreams, write them down, they may be useful! Now onto the positives.... Mysteries and hidden things will finally reveal themselves to you. This means that you are ready to put the pieces together, take action and move forward. If the answers are cryptic, you may need to consult other cards in the reading or have a more specific reading to better understand the answers. It also indicates that you can release any fears you are holding onto in regards to your question/situation. What is happening now is meant to happen so you can move forward.
