Emporiblog - World Poetry Day

Hello all!! For those of you that are unaware, today is World Poetry Day!!

Now, the reason why I'm including this in the blog is because writing Spells is a lot like writing Poetry. When you write a Spell, you need to consider the following:

- The layout. How many verses/lines will it have and how will you arrange them?

- Does it rhyme or scan? How does the rhyming pattern work and does it work for you?

- Does it flow? Do the words flow when you say them?

Like Poetry, a Spell can be as long or as short as you like and the wording can be as fancy and intricate as you can make it or plain and straight to the point, depending on your style and the purpose of your Spell.

You may also find that your style will change over time as you go along your path and as your life changes. You may start with something akin to a Shakespearean sonnet and end up with a couple of lines that sum everything up. Or, of course, the opposite could happen, you could start out with the bare minimum and end up with a full page of cleverly rhyming stanzas.

The important thing is that the style of your Spells both reflects who you are and works for you. As a Witch and a person, your words are some of your strongest tools. The written word is a physical representation of your mind and your will and speaking those words will give power to them but, how you say them and your intentions at the time can completely change your words so, make sure you are in the right frame of mind to give your words the most power.

There are so many layouts in Poetry and you may find one layout works for one kind of Spell but won't fit for another or you may end up with an amalgamation of different styles. As an aspiring writer, I find it incredibly fulfilling to start a Spell in one layout and keep going until I find the right one.

Of course, you don't have to do any of this. Your path is your own and is completely personal.

I think we'll leave this little post here!! I wanted to bring attention to this as World Poetry Day is severely overlooked (I wasn't aware of it until today!). So, have fun experimenting with your writing style and don't be afraid to pick up a pen!

Blessings,
