Flora Friday - Lesser Calendine

Hello all!! Today's Flora Friday is the Lesser Calendine!!



Lesser Calendine (Ficaria Verna) is a species of plant that belongs to the Ranunculaceae family, more commonly known as the Buttercup family. Other names include:

- Pilewort
- Figwort
- Eurasian Buttercup
- Fig Buttercup




Where To Find

Lesser Calendine is native to Europe and West Asia and can be found in North America, but it is considered an invasive species there. It likes bare and damp ground and is widely considered to be a weed.




Edible Parts

DO NOT EAT THIS PLANT RAW!! IT IS POISONOUS IF EATEN RAW!!

If the plant has been dryed and or heated properly it is safe to consume.


This plant is also severely toxic to several animals!




Medicinal Uses

This plant does have medical uses but since it is only able to be used in specific conditions (see above) I would NOT recommend using this plant for medical uses unless, prescribed or given by a professional!!





Magical Uses

In magical practices, Lesser Calendine is used for:

- Protection
- Happiness
- Banishing negativity

Again, use caution when handling this plant and avoid using if you have pets!!
