Hello all!! Today's Flora Friday is Rosemary!!
Rosemary (Salvia Rosmarinus) is a shrub that belongs to the Lamiaceae family. Other names include:
- Romero
- Old Man
- Prostrate Rosemary
- Ruzmarin
- Δενδρολίβανο (Greek for Rosemary)
- Rosmarinus Officinalis
- Elf Leaf
- Compass Weed
Where to find
Rosemary is native to the Mediterranean and Asia Minor but a dried version can be found in most supermarkets. It likes warm climates so it is possible to grow yourself, depending on where you live.
Edible Parts
Rosemary is edible and is frequently used in cooking! However, consuming large amounts of it can cause stomach and intestinal discomfort and can negatively effect your kidneys.
Medical Uses
Rosemary can help with:
- Digestion
- Improving concentration/memory
- Muscle pain
- Boosting the immune system
- The circulatory system
- Fighting infections
- Depression
- Respiratory problems
