Flora Friday - Triquetrous Garlic
Hello all!! Today's Flora Friday is Triquetrous Garlic!!
Triquetrous Garlic (Allium Triquetrum) is part of the onion and garlic genus Allium. The Triquetrum part of the name referes to the shape of the stalks. Other names include:
- Triquetrous Leek
- Angled Onion
- Three-corner Garlic
- Three-corner Leek
- Onion Weed
- Three-cornered Garlic
- Three-cornered Leek
- Triangular-stalked Garlic
- Snowbell
Where To Find
Triquetrous Garlic is native to the Mediterranean basin but can also be found in Australia, New Zealand, South America, Turkey, some American states and the UK (I always thought these were white bluebells!). Triquetrous Garlic like woodland clearings, meadows, riverbanks and roadside verges.
Edible Parts
All of this plant is edible and can be used as a substitute for onions, garlic, chives and leeks!!
Medicinal Uses
Triquetrous Garlic can help:
- Reduce cholesterol
- The digestive system
- The circulatory system
- High blood pressure
It also has mild antiviral and antibacterial properties.
Magical Uses
I couldn't find any specific magical uses for Triquetrous Garlic, so if you have any that your willing to share, let me know!,
I'm guessing that since it can be used as a substitute for garlic and onions in cooking, it can also be used as a substitute for them in magic but remember that Triquetrous Garlic is a lot milder!!

I couldn't find anything for Triquetrous Garlic specifically but the genus Allium means unity, prosperity, patience and good fortune.
