St Patrick's Day + March Full Moon

Hello all!! Today's post is a combined St Patrick's Day and Full Moon post!!

Apologies for no post yesterday, I have some sort of stomach bug but I'm determined to post today because I haven't missed a Moon yet!!

St Patrick's Day is a festival that originates from Ireland as St Patrick is the patron Saint of Ireland. St Patrick's Day is an annual festival held on the 17th of March as it is believed that St Patrick died on the 17th of March. Other names include:

- St Paddy's Day
- The Feast of St Patrick
- The Day of the Festival of Patrick
- Lá Fhéile Pádraig

Origins

Despite being born in the 5th century AD, St Patrick's Day wasn't made an official Christian feast day until the 17th century. St Patrick was born into a Roman British family where his father and grandfather worked for the Christian church. He was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken back to Ireland at age 16. It was here that he found God and escaped back to Britain to become a priest.

He then returned to Ireland to spread Christianity and it was here that he drove the "snakes" out of Ireland. Those snakes were in fact Pagans as snakes the species, don't actually inhabit Ireland.

Customs

St Patrick's Day customs have pretty much remained the same throughout the years and include:

- Parades
- Wearing green and shamrocks
- Céilí (Irish for social gathering)
- Drinking Irish alcohol
