Palm Sunday
Hello all!! Today's post is about Palm Sunday!! As it's the lead up to Easter, there are a lot of Christian days coming up so next week I'm going to fit as many as I can into one or two posts!!
Palm Sunday is a Christian feast celebration that commemorates Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and marks the first day of the Holy Week. It is a yearly feast but doesn't have a fixed date however, it always takes place on the Sunday before Easter. Other names include:
- Sixth Day of Lent
- Yew Sunday
- Branch Sunday
- Oshana Sunday
- Hosanna Sunday
Origins
The exact origins of Palm Sunday are unknown but there is recorded evidence of it happening in the 4th century in Jerusalem but, it would take another 5 centuries for Palm Sunday to reach the West.
Customs
The customs of Palm Sunday include:
- Attending church
- Church processions
- The distribution of blessed palms
- Hanging blessed palm branches behind Christian artwork/imagery
- Placing palm branches in Bibles
I think we'll leave this here!! I feel it's right to cover Christian festivals/celebrations as there are Christian Witches, who deserved to be acknowledged.
Blessings,
