Emporiblog - Cord Cuttings
Hello all!! Today's post is about Cord Cuttings!!
What is a Cord Cutting?
A Cord Cutting is a ritual that will allow someone to let go of something that no longer serves them. It is a physical representation of cutting the unseen bond between things.
What can I use a Cord Cutting for?
You can use a Cord Cutting for any connection that you want to get rid of, including:
- Past relationships
- Family members
- Toxic people
- Emotional connections
What do I need for a Cord Cutting?
First of all FIRE SAFETY!! The flames on Cord Cuttings can get pretty intense so have some water nearby and do not perform this in an area that could catch fire easily!!
For a Cord Cutting, you will need the following:
- 2 candles of equal height (can be a different colour but it's not essential), one to represent you and the other to represent the thing you want to cut out
- A length of string or thin rope
- Something fireproof and fire safe to put the candles on, preferably with raised edges as the wax can go everywhere!
- Optional, protection ingredients to form a circle around your candle, e.g salt
How to do a Cord Cutting
This may take a lot out of you so please make sure you are mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually prepared!
1 - Cleanse yourself and your space
2 - Carve your candle. Carve your name into one and the name of who or what you want to cut out onto the other. Dressing the candles is optional but I wouldn't recommend it as it could be a fire hazard in this case
3 - Securely stick your candles to your fireproof/safe surface. The distance between the candles is up to you but I would recommend Avoid plastic as it will melt and avoid glass as it can shatter. Now is the time to add your salt circle/protection to your candle
4 - Attach your cord. How many times you tie it around your candles is up to you, just make sure it's secure and doesn't slip down
5 - Light your candles with the intention of realeasing and letting go (never blow them out!)
6 - Watch your candles closely and study the flames and how the cord breaks, watch the wax as well and keep an eye out for any shapes or signs in the wax. You also need to watch your candles so any fire hazards can be extinguished!
7 - Once the candles have burnt down and everything has gone out, study what's left and add what you have found to step 6 to complete your cutting
Discard of the remains how you feel is appropriate. Check environmental laws and the materials of your ingredients if you intend on burying it!
I would recommend doing a protection ritual for yourself afterwards and/or refreshing the protections you already have. Remember to rest afterwards as Cord Cuttings can be draining!!
Now that you have done your cutting, you have to do your part and completely sever yourself from the person/situation. Don't ask about it/them, don't seek out gossip, don't think about it/them. The Cord Cutting is the physical cut but you need to also cut them/it out mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
You can either do a Cord Cutting yourself or someone else can do it for you. There are several services available on Etsy and from other practitioners!!
We also offer Cord Cuttings, drop us a message if you have any questions!
I think we'll leave this here! I hope you've enjoyed this post!! Remember that fire safety is of the up most importance, especially during a Cord Cutting so please be prepared!!
Blessings,
