Emporiblog - Hagstones

Hello all!! Today's post is about Hagstones!!

Disclaimer! Please note that it is actually illegal to take things from beaches in the UK (I didn't know either!). For other bodies of water, check local laws!

What is a Hagstone?

A Hagstone is a a stone with a naturally occurring hole through it that has been caused by water erosion. Other names include:

- Hag Stones
- Fairy Stones
- Witch Stones
- Holey Stones
- Odin Stones
- Adder Stones

What are Hagstones used for?

Hagstones can be used for the following:

- Protection. Tie them above doorways and on bed posts (protection against nightmares), add to witch bells or wear as jewellery

- Fae Work. It is said that closing one eye and looking through the hole will allow you to see the Fae world, kinda like in the Spiderwick Chronicles

- Fertility

- Revealing that which is hidden. Such as secrets and truths, the Fae world

- Expanding sight. Includiu, prophetic dreams, Clair senses and possibly even the future

- Cleansing

- New beginnings/positive change

- Warding

- Astral Travel

- Water/Sea Witchery

According to legend, if a Hagstone breaks, it has used it's power to save a life. Legends also state that if you find a Hagstone, it was meant for you, the stone finds you, not the other way around. By finding one yourself, it is supposed to be more powerful. Nowadays you can buy them or gift them and the properties will still be the same!

I think we'll leave this here! If you're lucky enough to find a Hagstone, look after it!

Blessings,
