When it comes to the Silver Vs Gold debate, I am firmly on Team Silver. I've never liked Gold, it never felt right but Silver has always felt right so, let's have a look at what Silver can do in Witchcraft!!
Properties of Silver
Here are some of the properties of Silver:
- It's reflective. Like a mirror, Silver can reflect energies and light, which is why the two were paired together and Silver was used as a backing in mirrors (it can also trap energy)
- It's a conductor. Silver is used in electronics for its natural conduction properties and can also be used for conducting energy in Witchcraft
- It is connected to the Moon and Stars. Due to its reflective nature and colour, it is often associated with the Moon and Stars so it can be used in astrology/cosmic Witchcraft
- It can be used in Money Magick. Silver has been used to make currency for a very long time. Old British coins contain a lot of Silver but nowadays, the amount of Silver is minimal
- It can boost psychic abilities. Especially if placed by the bed at night. It can also aid in dreamwork, specifically prophetic dreams. Silver mirrors can also be used for Scrying
- It is antibacterial and antimicrobial. Silver has been used to make utensils and drinking receptacles for centuries. Persian kings would store water in Silver vessels to prevent contamination and Silver coins would be placed in water to keep the water clean. Piercings done with sterling Silver are also less likely to get infected
- It has a long association with Magick and mysticism. Due to its status as a pure metal, Silver has been used for protective purposes like warding away evil and destroying evil, such as Werewolves and Vampires, who are noted for their weakness against Silver
Wearing Silver is also said to draw negativity from the body and calm the mind.
