Summer Solstice (Litha) + Tarot Tuesday

Hello all!! We're having another combined Tarot Tuesday today (I got my dates mixed up again, normal TT will resume next week!) of The Summer Solstice (Litha) and a Litha Spread!!


The Summer Solstice occurs once a year in each hemisphere and the date varies from hemisphere to hemisphere and happens when the pole in that hemisphere is at its maximum tilt towards the sun. Litha is a celebration of summer and one of 8 Pagan Sabbats. Bonfire, fires in general, Maypole dancing and dancing in general seem to be constant traditions in one form or another. Litha celebrations also take place on different days but usually occur on or around the Summer Solstice. Other names and spellings include:

- Midsummer
- Midsommar
- līða 
- Jāņi (Latvian)
- Līþa
- Lithe
- Gŵyl Ganol yr Haf (Welsh)
- Keskikesä (Estonian)
- Mittumaari (Finnish, meaning Measuring Scale)
- Feast of Saint John the Baptist (Christian)
