Emporiblog - Pop Culture Deities

Hello all!! We're kicking off our Deity Series in a very unexpected way!!

I've only recently come across this myself so, I'm going to share what I have found with you!!

You're probably familiar with the concept of Deity work and worship and said Deities that you form a relationship with but, what if I told you that it would also be possible for you to work with video game characters and literary characters, amongst others?

You'd probably think I'm crazy and I'm just making stuff up...

HOWEVER, what I am about to say is entirely true, it is, in fact, possible to work with fictional beings..... To some extent.

Pop Culture Deities exist and are possible to work with via something called an Egregore. An  Egregore (also spelt Egregor) is an occult concept that represents a nonphysical entity that has arisen from the collective thoughts of a select group of people, like a fandom for example or a group of followers.
A Pop Culture Deity Egregore would come from a combination of their existing lore/backstory, a physical representation (such as concept art, film portail or a video game character) and their status in Pop Culture.

Pop Culture Deities aren't actually Deities as such, this just seems to be the colloquially accepted term. When working with a Pop Culture Deity, you are working with a Spirit that represents something to you as it is the energy and concept that you are drawing on and from.

An example here is Loki. We have the Ancient Norse trickster Diety and Loki from the Marvel MCU and comic book universe. They are not the same as one has thousands of years worth of knowledge and power and the other has a completely different lore and representation. By this logic it is possible to work with both the Norse God and Loki from the MCU as they are 2 seperate entities.

However, Norse God Loki will be able to pass on knowledge and assist in Spellwork and your practice.

MCU Loki would just be a metaphysical representation of something within your practice.

To work with a Pop Culture Diety, you still need to reach out to their Egregore and honour them but not necessarily in the same way as you would with Deity Work as you are getting different things from an Egregore.

I think we'll leave this here!! I hope you've enjoyed this post and that it is coherent, this heat isn't helping my brain fog!!

Blessings,
