Emporiblog - Potato Magick
Hello all! Today we're going to be be looking at potatoes!
What is Potato Magick?
Potato Magick is simply using potatoes in your craft
Where do I get potatoes from?
Potatoes can be bought from the shops/markets in either bag or tin form or you can grow your own
How can I use potatoes in my craft?
Here are some ways you can use potatoes in your craft:
- Poppets. If all else fails, you can use a potato to make a poppet, either but carving it or using mash potatoes like you would use clay. You can also use the potato to make a stamp for runes and sigils
- Grounding. Potatoes are associated with the element of Earth since they grow in the ground and are excellent for grounding. Eat after spell work or anything intense to help bring you back to reality. Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew! I suppose you could also carve one in place of a pumpkin
- Protection. Potatoes can be used in protection magick, for example: cut a potato into quarters and bury them at the 4 corners of your property
- Healing. Potatoes are actually very good for you. They are antiinflammatory, rich in vitamins and fibre and can be used in skin care. The can also be used to help treat minor burns, bruises and sprains (please consult a medical professional first of you want to use them for medical reasons)
- Absorbing. I vaguely remember being told this as a child but running a cut potato over you or putting a cut one on the sole of your foot is supposed to absorb sickness. Place a potato either whole or halved on a plate in your to absorb negativity. Throw away when the potato starts to smell or go rotten
Potatoes are also associated with feminine energy, the Moon, root chakra and the star sign Virgo
Why should I use potatoes in my craft?
Firstly, they're organic so they are safe to bury depending on what you mix them with. They are versatile as there are many ways to use them, whole, cut, mashed etc. Compared to some things, potatoes are also cheap (depending on where you buy them)
I think we'll leave this one here! I had to rewrite this several times due to the amount of references to a certain Hobbit gardener.... My favourite time of year is approaching, hopefully I get some inspiration soon.
Blessings,
