Hello all! Today we're going to have a peak into Knot Magick!


What Is Knot Magick?

Sometimes called, String Magick, Thread Magick or Cord Magick, Knot Magick is a form of spellcraft that involves tying knots into material with intention to form a spell, putting emphasis on focus and directing energy. Items such as feathers, sticks, bones and the like can be tied into the spell but they are not mandatory. Each folk tradition has their own method and meaning e.g the amount of knots used and knot placement 


What is Knot Magick used for?

Knot Magick can be used for any purpose though historically, it was seen as a way to cause sickness. As this is mostly intention based, the possibilities are endless. Knot Magick is also a part of Stitch Witchery and Craft Witchery (featured here Which Witch Are You? pt 5 )


Examples of Knot Magick

The most known example of knot magick is the Witch's Ladder. Also called Witches' Ladder, Witches Ladder, Witch Ladder and Witches Garland, it is once again different depending on regions.

Another example comes from Ancient Egypt, with some amulets being made of knotted linen

How to make a Knot spell

Now, traditions and methods will vary depending on your practice but this a simple method should be easy to follow.

Step 1 - Decide on the purpose of your spell

Step 2 - Gather your ingredients

Step 3 - Depending on your ingredients, practice tying/plaiting them in your chosen material

Step 4 - Write your spell. From what I've seen, Knot spells have a habit of rhyming so, decide on how many knots you'll need and write out your spell. For example, try starting with:

By knot of one, the spell is begun 

And carry on with the By knot of until you reach your desired number. The words do not have to completely rhyme, the can scan (meaning they sound the same but aren't spelt the same).

Step 5 - Perform your spell 

Note - You do not have to stick with By knot of, you can write your spell however you want. It can be long and complicated, it can be short, you can even double knot on the way back down, it's completely up to you.

This kind of spellwork can be done and stored away pretty easily so for those of you still in the broom cupboard, it is a good way to practice.

Hello all! Today's post is kind of a serious one. Looking back through some of our previous posts, I have realised that some of the information that I gave is in fact, incorrect ! This post will hopefully set the record straight. The previous posts will still stand to serve as a reminder to always cross-reference and research thoroughly to avoid the mistakes that I made.
